Welcome to the Peterborough Music Festival website!

The 2016 Peterborough Music Festival ended on Saturday after a week of performances by talented local students. Over five days about 900 performers took part in 12 events at three venues, with an increase in entries over the previous year.

The last day of the Festival included the First New Youth Music Showcase at the Voyager Academy. Ten local young composers and singer-songwriters took to the stage to perform their own original music, and received feedback and advice from Hayley Sanderson, resident singer on BBC1's popular Strictly Come Dancing. The standard of all the performances was extremely high. After a difficult decision, Hayley awarded the overall prize of £100 and a day at Laffing Boy Music Recording Studios to 10 year old singer and guitarist Thomas Dunleavy. Runner-up prizes were awarded to piano and flute duo Separated at Birth, and pianist/singer-songwriters Corinne Quinn and Tash Hou. After the event, Hayley tweeted: 'Such talented young composers!!!! Proud of my hometown!'

Later that same day the Final Concert took place at the Town Hall Reception Room. Singer Becky Pick was awarded the prestigious title of 2016 Peterborough Young Musician of the Year, with a varied programme of three songs. Lydia Cochrane, flautist, was the runner up. The other finalists were Sarah Perry (violin), Emily Hale (singer), Isobel Ashby (recorder), James Keeling (piano) and Jake Alston (singer).

Young performers from the KY Glee show choir provided a lively finale to the concert, including a duet sung by Madison and Amelia Glendinning, Festival class winners. The Peterborough Music Festival competition will be back next year, from 14th to 18th March. Watch this space for exciting information coming soon!
